Machine Shop Renovations

Starting in February, we will begin to renovate our second location, Hackerspace Machine Shop. We are planing major upgrades during this time that will take most of this month too complete. Although the shop will remain open, some of the machinery might not be accessible during this time so try and plan accordingly.

September Demo Night – PCB’s, Lasers, and Politicians

We had an amazing turnout for our September Demo Night! We had members walk through what a laser cutter can do, and show how to do it with a live demonstration, as well as how to use the open-source KiCAD to design printed circuit boards (PCBs).

Oh, and we had a congressional candidate, Ken McGurn, swing by and give a talk about why he is running for office!

If you missed demo night this time, you can join us the 3rd Tuesday next month, Oct 18th, at 7pm!

Workshop: Basics of CAD

CADClass_4-27-16Have you ever wanted to learn how to 3D Model, but didn’t know where to start? There are a lot of very complicated (and very expensive) options out there, but it doesn’t have to be that way! Come join us on our first workshop for the basics of Computer Aided Design!

We will be using Onshape, a free, browser-based CAD program, to show just how easy it is to start creating 3D designs. We will start from the very beginning, from how to create simple sketches, all the way to combining multiple parts together to form full assemblies.

I like to call Onshape the “Google Docs of CAD Programs”, and allows for real time collaboration and version control, so even if you have CAD experience, you are welcome to come check out the latest in industry-leading CAD programs.

This workshop is open to the public, all are welcomed to attend!

When: Wednesday, April 27th, at 7pm.
Where: Gainesville Hackerspace, bottom level of the Sun Center (101 SE 2nd Pl, Ste 100, Gainesville, FL 32601)
Requirements: Laptop/tablet with Chrome/Firefox, or an android or iOs device with the Onshape app installed (yes, it even works on your phones!)

Workshop lead by: Christopher Hoffman, a Mechanical Engineer from UF with an interest in 3D Modeling, 3D Printing, and making lots of fun projects!
